If you are a woman and you think that you are the only one suffering from body size issues, think again. Yes, women are more vocal about their dissatisfaction with their bodies, and media usually cites members of the female gender as examples when they discuss eating disorders, plastic surgeries, and diet pills. However, these do not mean that men do not deal with the same problem.
With the covers of sports and fitness magazine showing male bodies in its perfect form, men are more pressured to keep up with the trend of six-pack abs. While it may sound like heaven for women if all men are determined to develop washboard abs, broad shoulders, and well-toned forearms, it is very unrealistic to expect every male to achieve a body resembling that of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Unfortunately, not all men accept the fact that they cannot have the body of those Baywatch hunks. When they cannot turn themselves into the media’s idea of a perfect male body, they resort into steroids and diet pills that may be more hazardous than helpful.
What is even more alarming is that since they are of the male gender, they are not forthright about their concerns. It is one thing to announce to the world that you are an alcoholic or a drug user and it is another for a man to join support groups when it comes to his body size.
